One-off UK Show Announced
Black Lips return to the UK this September for a one-off show at the Heaven Nightclub, Charing Cross in London. The show takes place on Monday 26th September.
Their last show at the venue got a bit messy at the end and I was sure they would never play there again - take a look at some clips on YouTube.
Tickets are £17.50 and are on sale here. Buy them before they sell out as it promises to be a riotous show!
Shows in Manchester and Bristol complete this mini UK tour.
BLACK LIPS tear up the 1234 Shoreditch Festival.
Black Lips returned to London to headline the East London festival. A toilet-paper strewn 'Boomerang', a pelting 'Bad Kids' played alongside new gems such as 'New Direction', 'Family Tree' and 'Dumpster Diving' brought the festival to a close on a hot, summer, London evening.

Exclusive mp3 Black Lips Tracks!
Black Lips are back for another Daytrotter session after previously stopping by their headquarters in June 2009, when the Atlanta flower punks were busy promoting their very good 200 Million Thousand. Fast forward to today and the guys are pushing yet another solid project by way of Arabia Mountain, which just dropped yesterday. As such, three of their Daytrotter session's four tracks (including And Get It and Get It) are dedicated to their new album. But they haven't forgotten about their older material just yet as they also ran through "Make It," a non-album track we heard back in '08.

Tonight's sweaty, sold-out show is big on flying beer, stage-diving and an aerial ballet of toilet-roll missiles ("Not like that," admonishes Cole Alexander. "They're supposed to stream!"). You occasionally catch a glimpse of...

Mark Ronson nearly died recording with Black Lips
Mark Ronson has opened up further about how he "nearly died" while producing the new Black Lips album 'Arabia Mountain'.
Ronson was hospitalised during sessions for the record after they ate raw liver sashimi at a Japanese restaurant to prepare for recording the track 'Raw Meat'.
Co-frontman Cole Alexander said: "To get in the mood to record 'Raw Meat' we started eating all this liver sashimi. Then we all started getting sick from it. Mark had to go to hospital because he was so high. His brain was cooking, man... (read more)

Ten tracks you have to hear this week: On a cruise ship somewhere in the Caribbean, Jared Swilley looks around and shakes his head. “These people don’t know how to vacation. They’re cowards, because they work in an office all day and this is the only time they get to do stuff like this [by ‘this’ he means get off their tits on Black Lips’ inaugural Bruise Cruise in March]... Arabia Mountain artwork released!!
Still set for a 6th June release date, the artwork for the new album has been released.
Black Lips' 6th album marks a first for the Atlanta-based flower punks. It's the first time they have worked with outside producers during the recording process. Along with some help from Deerhunter's Lockett Pundt, they've linked with Mark Ronson for nine of the album's 16 tracks. The resulting style heard on 'Arabia Mountain' is reminiscent of groundbreaking punk records such as Stooges' classic 'Fun House'.

VBS had to go all the way to the fucking Bahamas this weekend to make a video for The Black Lips. The weather sucked, there was no booze and people were banned from wearing swimsuits. Nobody threw a guitar off the side of the boat but everybody had a thoroughly miserable, shitty time. Here you can watch The Black Lips sum the whole weekend up by singing a depressing song called "Go Out And Get It!". In it they are accompanied by their friends from Vivian Girls, who were extremely unhappy about the whole ordeal.
Taken from their forthcoming Arabia Mountain album, watch the video.
Black Lips have been added to the bill for the first Friends of Mine 'green field festival' in Manchester on 20th, 21st, 22nd May. Alongside such British luminaries such as The Wedding Present, Buzzcocks and The Charlatans this has the makings of a great festival.
A few more dates have been announced for May, one show in London the other in Leeds. Full details below:
- 19/05/2011 - The Relentless Garage, LONDON (Thur)
- 22/05/2011 - Brudenell Social Club, LEEDS (Sun)
- 24/05/2011 - Stereo, GLASGOW (Tue)
It's shaping up to be quite a year for Atlanta's rabblerousing foursome, The Black Lips. An unlikely pairing between the Lips and glam pop-soul devotee/80's revivalist producer Mark Ronson has made the boys' upcoming sixth album, due in April, their most talked-about to date. It marked the first time the band had worked with a producer at all, generally opting for the bash-it-out-fast approach, and it resulted in greater collaboration between band members, plus the addition of horns, a theremin, a saw—in short, says the Lips' Jared Swilley, "the best thing we've done."
